Our Intro to the Balkans Tour
A glorious 10 days in Spain behind us. A perfect blend of experiencing new things and revisiting some of our favorites. 5 days with some fabulous pals. Gracias, Spain! Once again, we came, we saw, and we conquered our Spring in Spain Tour.v2.
Now, on to the main course – our (somewhat) carefully curated Intro to the Balkans Tour. It started with a flight deal to Istanbul and an interest I had in exploring Romania (which, ironically, didn’t even make the final cut). From there it morphed. What’s close to Istanbul? What routing options just seem to flow? A little googling, a few photos, and some random reviews later we had a very loose game plan for visiting and exploring a portion of the Balkan nations, for the very first time. Whoohoo! We have about 5 weeks, which of course, isn’t enough (is it ever?) but we have pinpointed several cities and destinations within the Balkan Peninsula that we’d like to explore if we can figure out how to swing it. See pinpoints below:
I love to make travel plans and multiple versions of those plans, even if we don’t end up following them. I love plotting out various routes and reading about how to get from A to Z. So, we shall see what we shall see, but at least we have a bit of the legwork done and a general idea of destinations that are of interest.
Missing from this itinerary are Romania (for me) and Greece (for Luis). But in order to get a good feel for each country and have enough time to make a few varied stops in each place we decided to focus on a few of the smaller countries this time. At least a week to 10 days would be required for each Romania and Greece, so those 2 will just need to stay on the list…another Spring in Europe tour in the making for next year, perhaps?
