Cuso International is a non-profit organization based in Ottawa that has worked in international development since 1961. They are one of North America’s largest non-profit groups that promotes long-term development through volunteers. CUSO places people who collaborate with local groups on projects in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Volunteers share expertise and perspectives and unlock potential! **Most of this wording is taken directly from CUSO’s website.
My previous employer is one of CUSO’s business partners. While employed with them I tapped into a program they offer which allows their employees to take a leave of absence in order to work with CUSO to volunteer in the developing world.
- Thailand 2010-2011: I spent 6 months as a Small Business Advisor for an organization working to improve stability within Burma through training programs for young adults and youth from Burma. This was through CUSO’s Securing Livelihoods program.
